On the evening of April 20, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Austin Police Department officers responded to multiple calls reporting gunfire at a parking garage located at 2604 Aldrich Street in Austin, Texas. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Shamar Roach, a 24-year-old Black male, and Kendrick Parker, a 32-year-old Black male.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that the incident stemmed from a child custody dispute involving two groups—one consisting of Parker and Roach, and the other including a male and a female. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the male suspect pulled out a firearm and shot both Parker and Roach. Witnesses provided crucial information that helped detectives identify a suspect vehicle, leading authorities to issue a "be on the lookout" alert.
Later that night, officers from the Manor Police Department located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The driver, Darius Sebastian Hatcher, a 26-year-old Black male, was taken into custody and transported to Austin Police Department Headquarters, where he was interviewed by detectives. Hatcher provided a statement regarding the incident. Following further investigation, authorities gathered additional evidence and issued an arrest warrant for Hatcher on May 12, 2025.
On May 14, 2025, members of the Texas Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Hatcher. He was charged with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons and is currently being held in the Travis County Jail on a $1 million bond. Authorities have confirmed that there are no outstanding suspects related to this case. The tragic deaths of Shamar Roach, a 24-year-old Black male, and Kendrick Parker, a 32-year-old Black male, mark Austin’s 18th and 19th homicides of the year.
