On December 13, 2024, at approximately 1:41 a.m., 17-year-old Carlos Arturo Sotelo was fatally shot during an attempted robbery at the Griffis at The Domain apartments in north Austin, Texas. Sotelo and others were in a vehicle in the parking garage when multiple armed suspects approached and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. In an effort to escape, the driver attempted to flee, prompting the suspects to open fire, with one shot striking Sotelo.
A witness transported him to Saint David's North Austin Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m.
The Austin Police Department has classified this incident as the city's 68th homicide of 2024. Investigators are actively seeking information from the public to identify and apprehend the suspects involved. Authorities have not released details about the suspects, and no arrests have been made as of now. The community is encouraged to provide any information that could assist in the investigation.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family of Carlos Sotelo has established a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and other related costs. The community has shown support by contributing to the fund, which has raised nearly $5,000 to date.
