In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, ending Jacob's life. According to the Austin Police Department, a woman living in an apartment in the 1000 block of Springdale Road in East Austin had an altercation with her 17-year-old boyfriend, Jorge Garza. Following the dispute, she called her ex-boyfriend, Jacob, for help. When Jacob arrived at the apartment, he asked Garza to leave the residence. Instead, Garza allegedly shot Jacob and then fled the scene in Jacob's vehicle.

Police and first responders were dispatched to the apartment complex at approximately 3:01 a.m. following a report of a shooting. They discovered Jacob inside the apartment, on the stairs, with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:13 a.m. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists from the Austin Forensic Science department immediately began processing the scene and investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter.

The investigation quickly identified Jorge Garza as the suspect. For two days, he remained at large. On Friday, September 25, 2026, members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Garza. He was subsequently booked into the Travis County Jail and charged with murder and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The Austin Police Department announced the arrest and shared details of the investigation, confirming that the shooting appeared to stem from the altercation between Garza and the two other individuals who knew each other.

Jacob's death was recorded as the 42nd homicide in Austin for the year 2026. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of domestic disputes turning violent. The investigation into the shooting continued after the arrest, with detectives seeking to gather all relevant information about the incident.
