Cornelia Lynne Moore, a 27-year-old woman from Austin, Texas, tragically lost her life on September 4, 2021, due to a road rage incident. On that fateful day, Moore called 9-1-1 around 12:29 p.m., reporting that a silver Dodge Charger was following her and engaging in aggressive behavior. She mentioned that the driver of the Charger was pointing a gun at her and had struck her vehicle. Shortly after, Moore reported that she had been shot.
Despite her efforts to provide her location, she became unresponsive during the call.
Responding officers found Moore in her black BMW near the 9400 block of I-35 on the southbound service road. She had a single gunshot wound and despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:07 p.m. The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office later ruled her death a homicide.
Homicide investigators identified the suspects in the Dodge Charger as 30-year-old Raffinee McCorkle and 32-year-old Tony McCullough. Both were charged with murder in connection to Moore's death. McCullough was arrested on September 5 after a SWAT situation in North Austin, while McCorkle was taken into custody without incident. Both suspects were booked into the Travis County Jail on murder charges.
The case drew significant attention due to the violent nature of the incident and the swift actions of law enforcement in apprehending the suspects. McCullough faced a $250,000 bond and was charged with first-degree felony murder. The incident was reported as Austin's 57th homicide of the year.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of road rage and the importance of staying calm and safe on the roads. The swift response of the Austin Police Department and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force ensured that justice was pursued for Cornelia Lynne Moore.
