On the evening of January 31, 2025, tragedy struck in Austin, Texas, when 53-year-old Ruel Saintmark Hill, a Black man, was fatally shot. The incident occurred in the 14900 block of Chamberlain Ct., where deputies responded to reports of gunfire and screaming. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Hill lying in the street with a gunshot wound.

Hill, a devoted father of four, had been returning his children home after spending time together when the shooting occurred. According to accounts from his family, he was sitting in his car, saying goodbye to his children, when a neighbor allegedly mistook him for a threat and fired at him without warning. The senseless act of violence left his children—Adia Oasis Ethline and Uriel —devastated, as they witnessed their father’s final moments.
Authorities swiftly launched an investigation into the shooting, gathering witness statements and securing evidence throughout the night. Olvera was booked into the Travis County Jail as the investigation continued.
