Michael Blaylock, a 26-year-old male, was tragically shot and killed on March 26, 2017, in North Austin, Texas. He was found dead along the 300 block of Carmen Court after police responded to a call of shots fired. Blaylock was pronounced dead at University Medical Center Brackenridge after EMS medics attempted resuscitation efforts. An autopsy determined that he died from gunshot wounds, ruling his death a homicide.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with Blaylock's murder.
Marvin Jermaine Flint, 21, was arrested on April 6, 2017, on a possession of a firearm by a felon charge. Karl Ray Stokes, 20, was arrested on April 11, 2017, in Hutto, Texas, by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Stokes was found armed with a semi-automatic pistol at the time of his arrest and was booked into jail with a bond set at $150,000. Flint's bond was set at $10,000.
According to police affidavits, Blaylock identified Stokes as his shooter before he died. Witnesses reported that Blaylock was hanging out at an apartment with several people when Flint and Stokes left the apartment. Shortly after, Blaylock left to get some food and returned with gunshot wounds. Blaylock managed to tell a friend that Stokes was the one who shot him. Stokes was reportedly mad at Blaylock over an incident that occurred a couple of months prior.
The investigation revealed that Stokes and Flint were involved in illegal drug activity at the apartment on the night of the shooting. Stokes, a known gang member with a history of assault, was particularly upset with Blaylock over a previous incident involving guns. Both suspects were taken into custody and held in the Travis County Jail.
The case highlights the tragic consequences of gang violence and illegal drug activity, leading to the untimely death of a young man and the subsequent arrests of two individuals involved in the crime.
