Radyn Antonio Terrell, a 3-year-old boy from Katy, Texas, tragically passed away on June 21, 2019, due to an accidental shooting. On the evening of the incident, Radyn discovered his father's loaded .38-caliber pistol on a high-boy dresser in their home. The young boy, who was thought to be asleep, climbed to reach the firearm and accidentally fired it, resulting in a gunshot wound to his face near his eye.
Despite being life-flighted to a nearby hospital, Radyn succumbed to his injuries after doctors determined there was no brain function.
Radyn's parents, Rudi and Rico Terrell, high school sweethearts from Katy High School, were devastated by the loss of their son. Rudi Terrell, a freelance makeup artist and office manager, frequently shared pictures and videos of Radyn on her Facebook page, where she also turned to the community for support and prayers during the difficult time. The Katy community rallied around the Terrell family, offering condolences and support through social media and local group sites.
The incident occurred at the 28200 block of South Firethorne Road, where authorities confirmed that the shooting was accidental. There were no arrests, suspects, or litigations related to Radyn's death, as it was determined to be a tragic accident. The family chose to honor Radyn's memory by creating a memorial t-shirt and supporting the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Education Project, which teaches children about gun safety.
Radyn's death serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of gun safety and the potential dangers that firearms pose in households with young children. The Terrell family, along with the Katy community, continues to mourn the loss of their beloved son, who will always be remembered for his love of dancing, music, and spending time with his family.
