Darius Phillips, a 42-year-old man, was shot and killed in Katy, Texas, during the early hours of June 14, 2026, after a party turned violent in west Harris County. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of Dutton Point around midnight after reports came in of a fight and gunfire. When they arrived, Phillips was already dead from gunshot wounds.
The shooting unfolded during a gathering at a home where a large fight broke out among several people. According to investigators, Phillips was among those involved in the altercation. As the fight escalated, the suspected shooter, described by deputies as a man in his 40s, retrieved a gun and shot Phillips. One report said the gunman went to a vehicle to get the firearm before shooting Phillips multiple times. Authorities said the shooter then fired toward other partygoers before fleeing the scene, and he was gone by the time deputies arrived.
Investigators described the shooting as targeted rather than random. Based on video evidence recovered during the investigation, authorities said the person who fired the shots had been involved in the fight and appeared to specifically target Phillips instead of shooting indiscriminately into the crowd. The gathering was described as mostly family, though non-family members were also present, and investigators said they did not believe the shooter was a family member of the victim or of the people hosting the party.
As of the available reports, no arrest had been announced, and the suspected gunman had not been publicly identified. Harris County Sheriff’s Office detectives were still working to positively identify the shooter and said additional information could be released if a warrant was obtained. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers of Houston.
