On October 28, 2021, Khalid Mendez, a 10-year-old boy from Houston, Texas, tragically lost his life in what was initially reported as an accidental shooting. Khalid and his 11-year-old friend found a gun inside a car at an apartment complex in the 8300 block of Willow Place. While playing with the firearm, it discharged, striking Khalid.
