On January 1, 1908, Patrolman Orlando Lee Jarnigan, aged 35, of the Knoxville Police Department was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a suspect. The incident occurred at approximately 9 PM in the doorway of Rena Hensley's House of Ill Fame. Patrolman Jarnigan and his colleague, Patrolman Mike Wrenn, were struggling with the suspect, who managed to shoot both officers in the head.
