Jakhory Dortch, a 22-year-old Black/African American male, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of July 15, 2025, outside a room at the Days Inn on Dante Road in Knoxville. Officers with the Knoxville Police Department were dispatched just after 3 a.m. to reports of a fight and gunfire at 114 Dante Road; when they arrived, first responders attempted life-saving measures, but Dortch—identified by police the following day as being from Athens, Tennessee—was pronounced dead.
