In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Knoxville, Tennessee, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. On April 30, 2024, officers from the Knoxville Police Department were dispatched to the 1800 block of Prospect Place in the Morningside neighborhood following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 11:40 p.m., they discovered a man lying on the ground, having sustained at least one gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Zackery Schwaller, a
male resident of Knoxville. Emergency medical services transported him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident was quickly determined to be a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit.
