On May 17, 1996, Francis Paul Scurry, a 48-year-old male police officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department, was fatally shot while assisting detectives in serving an aggravated assault warrant at an apartment in Madison, Tennessee. Officer Scurry, a U.S. Army veteran, had served with the department for 21 years.
