On a tragic evening in Nashville, Tennessee, a young man's life was cut short in a senseless act of violence that began with a transaction on Facebook Marketplace. Christopher Brandon McCabe, a 22-year-old male, was fatally shot on April 5, 2022, near the entrance of the Nashville International Airport. McCabe, a resident of Gallatin, had arranged to trade his BMW sedan for a Dodge Charger earlier in the week.
The situation turned deadly when the BMW he had traded broke down on Donelson Pike.
McCabe had driven to the location in a relative's SUV to assist after receiving a call from the person in the disabled BMW. A dispute ensued, and McCabe was shot while inside the SUV. He attempted to drive away but crashed into a guardrail. Following the shooting, three suspects were seen fleeing the scene. The investigation into the homicide was led by the Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit, along with their TITANS Unit.
The investigation quickly led to a primary suspect, Brandon Swaby, a 20-year-old Jamaican national. Swaby was apprehended on April 10, 2022, at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida airport by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents as he was attempting to board a flight to Jamaica. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide and held in Broward County, Florida, pending his extradition to Nashville. In a later development, Swaby pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder in October 2024. While one perpetrator was brought to justice, the search for the other individuals involved in the incident continued.
Christopher 'Brandon' McCabe, born on April 24, 1999, was remembered as a kind-hearted individual who was always willing to help others. His obituary described him as someone who lived life to the fullest and would be deeply missed by his extensive network of friends and family. He was a father figure to his girlfriend's son. A memorial service was held for him on April 10, 2022, at Hendersonville Funeral Home.
