In the spring of 2007, the life of 18-year-old John Yanders Jr. was tragically cut short in Dyersburg, Tennessee. A Black male born on August 31, 1988, Yanders was a young man with his whole life ahead of him. Remembered by family and friends for his vibrant personality, he was described as funny, caring, and a protector to those he loved. He had obtained his brick and masonry license and was known as a loyal friend and family member.
On May 8, 2007, the community was shaken by the news
of Yanders's death. He was a victim of gun violence, a senseless act that left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones. The sudden and violent nature of his passing left his family and friends grappling with immense grief and unanswered questions. He was laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery in Dyersburg.
