The day's violence began shortly after midnight on Brayton Street, where a 30-year-old man was discovered with gunshot wounds and subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Memphis. The turmoil continued later that afternoon, around 4 p.m., on Wilson Circle, where another shooting incident resulted in a 22-year-old man being hospitalized after an exchange of gunfire. The city was on edge, but the worst was yet to come.
As night fell, at approximately 9:43 p.m., Dyersburg Police were dispatched to the intersection of Roberts and Compress Streets following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered a vehicle, its lights still on, containing the body of Marcus Breashears. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
In the aftermath of the violence, the Dyersburg Police Department launched an extensive investigation into the three shootings.
