In the late summer of 2011, the community of Clarksville, Tennessee, was shaken by the discovery of a young man's body. Douglas James Deante Ramey, a 27-year-old male, was found deceased inside a 1995 Honda Accord on August 16, 2011. The vehicle was located in a parking lot behind businesses situated between 35 and 43 Crossland Avenue. Investigators with the Clarksville Police Department quickly determined that his death was not of natural causes and officially ruled it a homicide.
It was believed that he was killed late on August 15th or in the early morning hours of August 16th.
The investigation into the death of Douglas Ramey was a lengthy and meticulous process, spanning over two years. Detectives worked diligently to piece together the events that led to his untimely death. Their persistent efforts eventually bore fruit, leading to a significant breakthrough in the case. In November 2013, the Montgomery County Grand Jury handed down indictments for two individuals in connection with the murder.
Following the grand jury's decision, the Clarksville Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects. Mark Dewayne McMurry and Keith Kuzyk were taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery. The arrests brought a long-awaited sense of progress for the family and friends of Douglas Ramey, who had waited patiently for justice. Kuzyk, who was 22 at the time of his arrest, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail with a bond set at $500,000.
