In the quiet community of Round Rock, Texas, a tragic story unfolded in late February of 2015, culminating in the death of 34-year-old Ali Khan, a man of Southwest Asian descent. Concerns arose on Saturday, February 28th, when Ali, the general manager at Round Rock Kia, failed to show up for work, a behavior described as out of character for the dedicated employee. A concerned coworker went to Ali's home on Los Alamos Court to check on him.
After receiving no answer at the door, the coworker contacted Ali's wife, Nancy Khan, who claimed to be out of town.
Upon her return to the residence around 1 p.m., Nancy entered the house alone, telling the coworker to wait outside. Moments later, a scream was heard from within. The coworker rushed inside to find Ali Khan's lifeless body on the floor of the master bathroom with a gunshot wound to his head. Initially, Nancy Khan suggested to detectives that a robbery had occurred, claiming jewelry and money were missing. However, investigators soon uncovered evidence that pointed not to a random act of violence, but to a calculated effort to conceal a domestic homicide.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on Nancy Khan as the primary suspect. Authorities discovered a shell casing from a 9mm weapon near Ali's body and an empty box for a 9mm pistol in Nancy's vehicle. Further inconsistencies in her story and physical evidence, including blood found on her feet, pointed toward her involvement. The motive behind the killing appeared to stem from a significant deception within their recent marriage; Ali had reportedly discovered that Nancy had been lying about being pregnant and had threatened to divorce her. According to investigators, Nancy later confessed to a friend that she had shot and killed her husband.
Nancy Khan, also known as Nancy Flores, was arrested and initially charged with tampering with physical evidence. This charge was later upgraded to murder. In May 2018, Nancy Khan pleaded guilty to the murder of her husband. During the legal proceedings, it was revealed that she had shot him multiple times before delivering a final, fatal shot at point-blank range. In June 2018, a judge sentenced Nancy Khan to 40 years in prison for the murder of Ali Khan, bringing a somber conclusion to a case that began with a lie and ended in a devastating loss of life.
