In a tragic incident on January 28, 2014, in Hermitage, Tennessee, 15-year-old Kevin Barbee was fatally shot. The male teenager was with his friend, 17-year-old Kaemon Robinson, and two other people in a Hermitage apartment at the time of the shooting.
According to witness statements provided to the police, Robinson was playing with a pistol when the firearm discharged, and a bullet struck Barbee in the face. After the shooting, Robinson fled the apartment before law enforcement arrived.
Barbee was rushed to Summit Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Later that night, an attorney representing Robinson contacted the police to arrange his surrender. Robinson and his mother met with detectives, and he was taken into custody. Initially charged with criminal homicide, Robinson later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless homicide. The victim's mother, who had initially wanted Robinson to be tried as an adult, later forgave him. As a result of the plea agreement in juvenile court, Robinson was expected to be released from custody in less than two years.
