Two 15-year-old boys from Kentucky, Shawn Davis and Demarcus Boyd, entered the Kwik Sak and engaged in a brief but fatal interaction with Patel. The argument escalated, culminating in Davis brandishing a handgun and shooting Patel while he was behind the counter. The two teenagers then fled the scene in a stolen Kia Sorrento. Further investigation revealed their alleged connection to another crime; they were also charged with the aggravated robbery of a 7-Eleven that had occurred the day before Patel's murder.
