In the early morning hours of Friday, May 22, 2015, a party on College Street in Clarksville, Tennessee, turned tragic, ending the life of 20-year-old Charles Whitfield. Whitfield, a Black male and a 2014 graduate of Rossview High School, was fatally shot around 1:00 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting led to the swift apprehension of two suspects the following day. The Clarksville Police Department's TACT team executed a search warrant and arrested 18-year-old Tequan Evans. Hours later, 19-year-old Tremond Dinell Lenor surrendered to patrol officers who had surrounded a house on Commission Drive. Both men were initially charged with criminal homicide.
As the investigation progressed, more individuals were implicated in Whitfield's death. Two other teenagers, 18-year-old Bobby Lenor III and 18-year-old Savion Stallworth, were also charged with criminal homicide. According to court documents, the four teenagers were accused of acting together with premeditation to kill Whitfield.
The legal proceedings for the suspects saw several developments. In June 2015, the criminal homicide charges against Tequan Evans were dropped, pending a grand jury presentation. However, in January 2016, a Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Evans on charges of first-degree felony murder, aggravated burglary, and criminal impersonation in connection to Whitfield's death. Stallworth was also indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in August 2015. Evans was later arrested on separate drug charges in August 2016 while out on bond for the murder charge.
