In the early evening of February 7, 2016, the life of 20-year-old Tijuandre Garrett was tragically cut short in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Police responded to a call about a shooting at a residence on Eagle Street just before 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Garrett suffering from a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was quickly transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.

The investigation into the young man's death swiftly moved forward, and detectives soon identified a suspect. Through their investigation, authorities pinpointed Juan Carlos Carachure, a 23-year-old from Nashville, as the individual allegedly responsible for Garrett's death. In early March, with the assistance of the Metro Nashville Police Department's SWAT team, a search warrant was executed at Carachure's residence, and he was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Robbery. During the raid, another man, 25-year-old Justin Woodard of Nashville, was also arrested and charged with Criminal Conspiracy in connection to the case.

As the legal proceedings began, details emerged suggesting the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone wrong. Evidence presented in court included text messages from the victim's phone, which indicated that Garrett had arranged to purchase half a pound of marijuana from Carachure for $1,675 on the day he was killed. It was during this meeting that Garrett was fatally shot. A Murfreesboro Police detective testified that the evidence gathered from the scene, including autopsy findings and blood spatter analysis, did not support any claim of self-defense on the part of the defendant.
