In the summer of 2016, a tragic and bizarre incident led to the death of 36-year-old Robert Caston, a Black/African American male from Memphis, Tennessee. On June 28th, Caston was found shot in the Oakhaven area, specifically in the 4000 block of Shelter Cove. The events that culminated in his death began with a shared moment between friends that took a fatal turn.
Robert Caston was with his friend, Terrell Scott, and they were smoking what Scott later claimed he believed to be a 'laced'
blunt. A sense of fear and paranoia reportedly overcame Scott, who came to the conclusion that the marijuana had been tampered with. This fear escalated rapidly and violently. In a state of alleged panic, Scott shot Caston, resulting in his friend's untimely death.
Following the shooting, the Memphis Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led them to Terrell Scott. A witness came forward, telling authorities that they had picked up Scott near the scene of the crime, and that Scott had recounted the events of the shooting to them. Based on this information and other evidence, police arrested Terrell Scott.
Terrell Scott was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Robert Caston. In his defense, Scott maintained that his actions were driven by fear for his own life, believing he had been drugged. The case proceeded to the judicial system, where Scott was scheduled for his initial court appearance to face the charges brought against him.
