In the spring of 2016, a life was tragically cut short in South Memphis. Deandra Claxton, a 30-year-old male, found himself in a fatal altercation on the evening of May 3rd. The intersection of Phillips and McLemore, a stone's throw from the renowned Stax Music Academy, became the scene of a violent encounter that would end Claxton's life. An argument escalated, and in the heat of the moment, a gunshot rang out, leaving Claxton with a mortal wound.
He was discovered at the scene and rushed to the Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The Memphis Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in connection with the shooting. A few days after the incident, an arrest was made. Andre McClenton was taken into custody by law enforcement. According to police reports, McClenton had been involved in the dispute with Claxton that preceded the shooting.
Following his arrest, Andre McClenton faced serious legal consequences. He was charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in Deandra Claxton's death. In addition to the murder charge, McClenton also faced charges related to cocaine possession.
