On a Tuesday afternoon in the Northaven area of Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 30-year-old Andre Harwell was brought to a violent and abrupt end. The events of February 8, 2022, unfolded outside the Penny Pantry convenience store on Breckenwood Drive, a place that would become the final scene of Harwell's life. What began as a brief argument escalated with shocking speed, leaving a community in mourning and a family grappling with a senseless loss.

captured the chilling sequence of events. Cameron Deshawn Westbrook, then 21 years old, was seen following Harwell into and then out of the Penny Pantry. Following a verbal altercation, Westbrook produced a handgun and shot Harwell multiple times. In a particularly callous act, after initially walking away from the unresponsive victim, Westbrook returned and fired his weapon again at Harwell. First responders found Harwell deceased at the scene when they arrived at approximately 1:45 p.m.
The investigation into Andre Harwell’s death moved swiftly. Nine days after the fatal shooting, detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrested Cameron Deshawn Westbrook without incident. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. In June of the same year, a grand jury indicted Westbrook on the murder charge. He is currently being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail as he awaits trial for the death of Andre Harwell.
