Jermaine Greer, 32, was a Black male from Memphis, Tennessee, whose life ended on December 6, 2023, when an ordinary evening in the Hyde Park area suddenly turned chaotic. What began as a traffic collision at a busy North Memphis intersection spiraled into violence, leaving a family to grieve and a neighborhood to replay the moment in uneasy fragments.
Memphis police were called to the crash at Chelsea Avenue and North Hollywood Street around 6:20 p.m.
Investigators did not publicly clarify how many vehicles were involved, but the aftermath quickly became more than twisted metal and flashing lights. Police said a “disturbance” broke out after the crash, and in the confusion, gunfire erupted. Greer was shot and did not survive his injuries.
