On the evening of the Fourth of July in 2023, a day typically marked by celebration, tragedy struck in a northeast Memphis neighborhood. Robert Tunstall, a 27-year-old man known to many as the local rapper Casino Jizzle, was shot and killed. The incident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Goldbrier Lane, where responding Memphis Police Department officers found Tunstall deceased at the scene.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, witnesses reported that a known
male suspect had fled the area in a black vehicle. This information quickly propelled the investigation forward. The very next day, on July 5th, Memphis Police investigators identified Michael Clayton, also 27, as the primary suspect in Tunstall's death and issued a warrant for his arrest on the charge of first-degree murder.
The search for Clayton continued for several days. On July 10th, a breakthrough came when the Memphis Police Department received a tip regarding Clayton's whereabouts. Acting on this information, officers located him in the 300 block of Exchange Avenue, near the 201 Poplar Avenue area. Clayton was taken into custody without incident and transported to jail to face the murder charge brought against him.
