On the evening of Thursday, November 6, 2008, Vernon Irvin, a 52-year-old male employee of the Regional Medical Center, was at his home at 1908 Macaulay in North Memphis, enjoying a visit with a friend. The course of the evening took a tragic turn at approximately 7:15 p.m. when the doorbell rang. Irvin went to answer the door and spoke briefly with the person on the other side.
