On the evening of Thursday, November 6, 2008, Vernon Irvin, a 52-year-old male employee of the Regional Medical Center, was at his home at 1908 Macaulay in North Memphis, enjoying a visit with a friend. The course of the evening took a tragic turn at approximately 7:15 p.m. when the doorbell rang. Irvin went to answer the door and spoke briefly with the person on the other side. In a sudden act of violence, he was shot.
Responding officers found Irvin inside his residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to render aid, he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. The individual who shot Irvin fled in an unknown direction, and no vehicle was seen leaving the area.
Investigators from the Memphis Police Department's Homicide Bureau have been handling the case. However, the person responsible for Vernon Irvin's death has not been identified or apprehended. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with this homicide, and the case remains unsolved.
