In the quiet town of Arlington, Tennessee, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in what was described as a devastating accident. Lucinda 'Luci' Kay Luna, a 19-year-old female, died on June 2, 2017, from a gunshot wound she sustained in her home. The incident that led to her untimely death involved her 18-year-old boyfriend, Brennan Fields, and a handgun he had just received as a graduation present.
On the night of June 1, 2017, Lucinda, Brennan, and a few other friends,
including a toddler, were in her bedroom. Brennan was showing his new. 45 caliber pistol, a recent gift from Lucinda’s own father. As he was attempting to put the weapon away, it discharged, striking Lucinda in the stomach. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent surgery, but tragically, she did not survive.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office investigated the shooting and quickly determined it to be a terrible accident. Friends of the couple described Brennan as responsible and knowledgeable about firearms, stating that he would never have intentionally harmed Lucinda. They portrayed him as being distraught and heartbroken over the incident. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement officials announced that they did not anticipate filing any charges against Brennan Fields, viewing the event as a tragic mishap rather than a criminal act.
Lucinda was remembered in her obituary as a creative, witty, and intelligent young woman who was full of life. She had a passion for drawing, writing, reading, and studying languages.
