Late on July 26, 2017, a violent moment on Wilcox Boulevard in Chattanooga ended with a sudden crash into the storefront of Wedgewood Cleaners. Officers arriving to the scene found Desmond Clay, a 39-year-old Black man, inside an SUV that had slammed into the business, wounded by multiple gunshots. He was rushed by ambulance to the hospital, but the injuries proved fatal.
