In the early morning hours of October 5, 2017, the life of 18-year-old Nathaniel Banks of Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. The young man was the victim of a fatal shooting that unfolded in Southeast Shelby County. Following the shooting, Banks was left at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch around 3:00 a.m.
Witnesses at the hospital reported seeing a maroon Ford Mustang pull into the parking lot from which two shots were fired. This vehicle became a crucial piece of evidence for investigators from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. Their investigation led them to identify two suspects in connection with the homicide: Jalen Steward and David Virges.
Law enforcement officials successfully located and arrested both Steward and Virges. During the course of the investigation, authorities stated that both men confessed to their involvement in the shooting death of Nathaniel Banks. Following their confessions, Jalen Steward was charged with second-degree murder, while David Virges faced a charge of accessory after the fact.
