On the night of January 4, 2021, 10-year-old African American boy Dameon Chalmers was fatally shot outside his home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of North Memphis, Tennessee. According to Memphis police, Dameon was standing outside with a family member around 11 p.m. when the shooting occurred. He was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
