In the summer of 2019, a fatal shooting outside a Nashville motel unfolded into a story of a large-scale drug operation gone wrong. Samuel Eugene Robinson, a 46-year-old male from Houston, Texas, was shot on the afternoon of June 1st outside the Red Roof Inn on Claridge Drive. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators with the Metro Nashville Police Department quickly determined that Robinson's death was not a random act of
violence. The investigation revealed a connection to a significant marijuana distribution conspiracy. Inside a motel room associated with the crime scene, authorities discovered 99 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, weighing a total of 218 pounds. The estimated street value of the drugs was over half a million dollars. It is believed that Robinson was involved in an altercation with his killer, which ultimately led to the fatal shooting.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, the gunman and an associate were seen fleeing the motel on foot. Police descriptions of the two suspects were released to the public. One man was described as tall with dreadlocks, wearing a black shirt and light brown pants. The second suspect was noted to be shorter and was wearing a brown shirt and jeans. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, including the use of police dogs to track the suspects, no arrests have been made in the case.
