In the early morning hours of October 23, 2022, a sense of unease lingered outside Club Premium, an after-hours establishment on Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, Tennessee. The club had just closed at 5:30 a.m., but a number of patrons, including 29-year-old Nathan 'Nate' Garvin, remained outside. It was in these moments that a dark-colored sedan, traveling southbound, slowed to a stop. An occupant of the vehicle opened fire, shattering the morning calm and forever altering the lives of many.
The car then sped away, leaving chaos in its wake.
Nathan Garvin, an African American male, was struck by the gunfire and found in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. No one else outside the club was injured in the shooting. Homicide detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department immediately began an investigation, working to identify the occupants of the black sedan. While they have stated they are working on strong leads and processing evidence, no arrests have been made in the case.
In the wake of his son's death, Jamie Jones Bargatze, Nathan's mother, has become a vocal advocate for justice. She believes the bullet that struck her son was not intended for him and has emphasized that the perpetrator is still at large. To honor his memory and provide support for his two young sons, Kavion and Armondo, she started a clothing brand called 'Forever 29'.
Nathan Garvin was remembered by his loved ones for his kind heart and vibrant personality. He had a passion for basketball, skateboarding, and soccer and was a devoted father. His family and friends continue to seek answers and justice, hoping that someone with information will come forward to help law enforcement bring those responsible for his death to account.
