On a February evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the parking lot of Meigs Magnet School became the scene of a tragedy that claimed the life of 16-year-old Takeo Bills. On February 8, 2024, Bills, a male student from Chapel Hill, and his 17-year-old friend, Jalen McAdams of Franklin, arrived at the school in a white Nissan Altima around 6:50 p.m. Waiting for them was a black Honda Accord, inside of which were 18-year-old Rico Doss Jr. and another individual.

After Bills and McAdams parked, Doss and his companion exited their vehicle and entered the back seat of the Nissan Altima. Shortly after, gunfire erupted inside the car. Both Bills and McAdams were shot. McAdams was pronounced dead at the scene, while Bills was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The two assailants fled in the Honda Accord immediately after the shooting.

The Metro Nashville Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide, with detectives suspecting a drug-related motive. Investigators were able to track the movements of the Honda Accord to a nearby apartment complex. This led them to identify Rico Doss Jr. as a primary suspect.

The day after the shooting, on February 9, law enforcement apprehended Doss at his apartment in Bellevue. At the time of his arrest, Doss was already wanted on an outstanding warrant for attempted homicide in connection with a separate shooting that had occurred just days prior during a marijuana transaction that went wrong. The investigation continued, leading to the arrest of a second suspect, 17-year-old Ashton Brown, at his residence in Bellevue on February 11. Both Doss and Brown are now facing two counts of criminal homicide for the deaths of Takeo Bills and Jalen McAdams. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
