In the summer of 2023, on the evening of June 25th, a conversation on a sidewalk in Nashville, Tennessee, turned deadly, ending the life of 26-year-old Eric Whigham. The male victim was outside an apartment complex on Edgehill Avenue, engaged in a discussion with another young man. As Whigham turned to walk away, the other individual pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times. First responders rushed to the scene around 10:30 p.m. and found Whigham grievously wounded.
He was quickly transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify 19-year-old Christon Collins as the suspect. For several weeks, Collins remained at large. Then, on July 14, 2023, he voluntarily surrendered to the authorities. Collins was subsequently charged with criminal homicide for the death of Eric Whigham. At the time of the shooting, Collins was already entangled in the legal system. He was on probation for felony gun and drug charges from a prior arrest. Additionally, he was out on bond for other pending charges at the time of the fatal encounter. The charges against him now included the murder of Eric Whigham, adding a grim chapter to his criminal history.
