In a tragic turn of events on December 8, 2024, 20-year-old De’Angelo Black of Nashville, Tennessee, lost his life in a shooting on Interstate 24. Black, a new father to a seven-month-old daughter, was a passenger in a Saturn Ion when the incident unfolded.
Earlier in the day, the occupants of the Saturn had an encounter with individuals in another vehicle at a gas station in North Nashville. Following this interaction, the second car pursued the Saturn onto the interstate. Shortly after merging onto I-24 West from I-40 near the Silliman Evans Bridge, shots were fired from the pursuing vehicle. Black, who was seated in the back, was the only person struck by the gunfire. The driver of the Saturn quickly exited at Shelby Avenue and sought help from a nearby police officer. Black was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Metro Nashville Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are actively investigating the shooting. They later located the suspected vehicle, unoccupied, at an apartment complex in North Nashville. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Nashville Crime Stoppers. The family of De'Angelo Black remembers him as a cheerful person who loved to joke and play basketball, and they are now faced with the devastating loss and the challenge of raising his young daughter without him.
