In the early morning hours of September 8, 2024, a night of celebration turned into a tragedy for 18-year-old Yasser Paz, a male, and his friends in Nashville, Tennessee. The group was leaving Bucanas Night Club on Nolensville Pike after celebrating a friend's birthday. As they made their way to their vehicle in the parking lot at approximately 2:30 a.m., another vehicle, described by witnesses as a dark Chevrolet Suburban, pulled up beside them.
Several men exited the Suburban and unleashed a barrage of gunfire at Paz and his companions in what authorities believe was a targeted attack.
The sudden violence left two of the friends struck by bullets. Both Yasser Paz and 20-year-old Kyaw Naing were rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Paz succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Naing was left in critical condition, fighting for his life. The two other friends who were with them were fortunate to escape the ambush unharmed. The shooting sent shockwaves through the community and left a family grappling with an immense loss.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation. To date, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large. The police have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for the fatal shooting. Yasser Paz's family has been vocal in their grief, remembering him as a beloved and vibrant young man who was an avid soccer player, loved music, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His brother described him as having a fearless 'Kobe mentality' and being 'the kid that knew everyone.' The family has organized vigils and made public pleas for justice for their son and for an end to the gun violence that cut his life short.
