In the autumn of 2021, the life of 22-year-old Dedrian Clendening, a male from Nashville, Tennessee, was cut tragically short. On the night of Saturday, October 30th, a chaotic scene unfolded outside a short-term rental property on Monroe Street. Inside, a group of young women were having a slumber party, an evening intended for fun and friendship that would soon be shattered by violence.
As the night progressed, a group of men gathered near the front of the condominium.
The festive atmosphere took a dark turn when a car pulled up nearby. Without warning, one or more occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the condo and the crowd that had assembled outside. The sudden eruption of gunfire was met with return fire from some of the individuals who had been standing near the rental property. In the ensuing exchange, Dedrian Clendening was struck by a bullet, sustaining a fatal head wound. It is believed he was inside a vehicle when he was shot, though it remains unclear if that vehicle was the one from which the initial shots were fired.
Following the shooting, Clendening was privately transported to Centennial Medical Center. The individuals who dropped him off did not stay to provide information to the authorities, leaving quickly after he was in the care of the hospital. When police officers arrived at the Monroe Street location, they discovered a scene littered with numerous shell casings, a testament to the gun battle that had taken place, but the victims and perpetrators were gone.
Homicide detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department were called in to lead the investigation into the young man's death. They began the arduous process of piecing together the events of that fatal night, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of those responsible for the shooting. In the days and months that followed, the investigation remained active, with detectives pursuing leads in the search for suspects. However, despite their ongoing efforts, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the death of Dedrian Clendening, leaving a case still seeking resolution and a family still waiting for justice.
