On the evening of February 7, 2016, Deshawn Cunningham, a 23-year-old African-American male, was with two other people in an alley at 1017 1st Avenue South in Nashville, Tennessee. At approximately 9:00 PM, a small, silver car approached the group, and shots were fired from within the vehicle.
Cunningham was struck by the gunfire and sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The Metro Nashville Police Department launched an investigation into the fatal drive-by shooting and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of the shooter or shooters. Authorities were particularly interested in any recent disputes Cunningham may have been involved in.
Following his death, funeral services were held at the Terrell Broady Funeral Home. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Deshawn Cunningham, and the case remains unsolved. Law enforcement continues to encourage anyone with information to come forward.
