On July 23, 2017, Osmani Munongerwa, age 20, and his mother, Isha Musa, were found shot to death in their apartment in the Edgehill neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. Family members discovered their bodies around 1:45 p.m. after hearing what might have been gunshots earlier that morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. The double homicide was part of a troubling rise in violence in Nashville that year, marking the 59th and 60th homicides of 2017. The investigation into their deaths is ongoing.
