On a Tuesday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the sounds of a casual football game among friends turned into a scene of tragedy. On March 23, 2010, Marquise Wilkerson, a 20-year-old Black male, was enjoying a game with his friends at the intersection of 10th Avenue North and Coffee Street. Around 7:30 p.m., the playful atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunshots, sending the young men scattering for cover. In the chaos, Wilkerson was struck by the gunfire and sustained a fatal wound.
