In the winter of 2016, a young African American male named Quenterious Griner was killed in Sandersville, Georgia, the victim of a violent shootout that erupted from a drug deal laced with deception. The fatal incident, which took place on February 7 at Kaolin Park, was the tragic end to a chain of events set in motion earlier that day. Griner had accompanied a group of individuals, including Michael Antonio Frazier, Jr., Madriquez Harper, and Brandon Seals, to what was supposed to be a marijuana transaction.
Unbeknownst to them, the planned drug deal was a setup for a robbery. Harper had been contacted by D'Andrious Brown to sell marijuana, a transaction facilitated by a mutual acquaintance. However, this acquaintance overheard Brown plotting to rob Harper and warned him of the impending danger. Aware of the potential for violence, Harper, Griner, and their associates went to the meeting at Kaolin Park armed. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in a shootout between the two groups. In the exchange of gunfire, Griner was struck by a. 40-caliber bullet in the back as he tried to flee and died at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a Washington County grand jury handed down indictments for several individuals involved in the deadly confrontation. Those charged included Michael Antonio Frazier, Jr., Madriquez Harper, Brandon Seals, D'Andrious Brown, Tevyion Brown, Keyontray Johnson, and Tevon Scott. The investigation revealed that the bullet that killed Griner was fired from a gun that D'Andrious Brown later provided to investigators.
The legal process that followed sought to hold those responsible for Griner's death accountable. Michael Antonio Frazier, Jr. was convicted as a party to the crimes of felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for his role in the attempted armed robbery that led to the death of his accomplice, with an additional five years for the firearm offense.
