In a tragic turn of events on a Friday afternoon in North Nashville, what began as a gathering of young friends ended in the untimely death of 15-year-old DaVontae Ziegler. On March 6, 2015, the male teenager was on the front porch of his home with two friends when a single gunshot shattered the neighborhood's peace. DaVontae was struck and subsequently rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation
into the shooting quickly revealed a heartbreaking twist: the individual responsible was one of DaVontae's own friends. An 11-year-old boy, who was with DaVontae at the time of the incident, was identified as the shooter. In a somber and unusual development, the Metro Nashville Police Department charged the 11-year-old with criminal homicide in connection with DaVontae's death.
