In the early hours of July 26, 2024, the life of 17-year-old Caleb Michael Womack was tragically cut short in what police have described as a targeted shooting. Womack, a male resident of Old Hickory, Tennessee, was inside his duplex on Bryan Street when multiple shots were fired into the residence from the roadway just before 1 a.m.
Responding to a call of shots fired, Hermitage Precinct officers discovered Womack in his living room.
He had arrived home only a short time before the fatal gunfire erupted. Emergency services rushed him to Skyline Medical Center, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Womack was an upcoming senior at McGavock High School with aspirations of becoming an aircraft mechanic. He was known for his love of the outdoors and his willingness to help others.
The investigation into Womack's death led homicide detectives to two teenage suspects. On October 4, 2024, Metro Nashville Police announced the arrests of Kevin Crumpler, 17, and Johnathan Castellano, who was also 17 at the time of the shooting. Authorities stated that an ongoing dispute between the suspects and Womack preceded the deadly shooting. Castellano, who had since turned 18, was already in custody on an unrelated charge when the homicide charge was added. Crumpler was taken into custody on Neelys Bend Road.
Both Crumpler and Castellano have been charged with homicide in Juvenile Court for their alleged roles in the death of Caleb Womack. The case against them is pending in the juvenile justice system.
