In the early morning hours of October 11, 2019, tragedy struck inside a Nashville, Tennessee, home, claiming the life of 18-year-old Rashawn Wallace. An African American male and a student at Maplewood High School, Wallace was fatally shot during what investigators described as a robbery plot targeting his father, Roger Wallace. The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. at their residence on Buena Vista Pike.
The investigation revealed a planned home invasion involving five individuals.
Two women, Logan Sadler and Ajah Miles, were reportedly visiting Rashawn and his father. At one point, Miles is said to have opened the front door, allowing three men, Keimichael Clack, Chaziah Woods, and Ronnie Sims Jr., to enter the home. A shootout ensued inside the residence, during which Rashawn Wallace was struck by gunfire multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His father also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
Responding quickly to the scene, law enforcement was able to apprehend some of the suspects in the immediate aftermath. Clack and Sadler were detained at or near the home. Miles had driven Woods, who was wounded in the shoulder during the gunfire, to a local hospital. Sims initially remained at large, but all five suspects were eventually taken into custody.
All five individuals, Keimichael Clack, 19, Ronnie Sims Jr., 28, Chaziah Woods, 19, Logan Sadler, 26, and Ajah Miles, 22, were charged with criminal homicide for their roles in the death of Rashawn Wallace. In addition to the homicide charges, Clack, Sims Jr., and Woods faced further charges of attempted criminal homicide for the shooting of Roger Wallace. Authorities also indicated that the suspects were being investigated for other criminal activities in the Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky area.
