In the late afternoon of August 28, 2022, a sense of normalcy in the James Cayce public housing development in Nashville, Tennessee, was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 16-year-old Antonio Baker Jr. The teenager was in a parking lot in the 500 block of South 5th Street when he was fatally shot around 5:50 p.m. Emergency services rushed Antonio to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to the gunshot wound.

The investigation into the death of the Dew Street teenager quickly pointed to a drug-related robbery as a potential motive. Within a day, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department made its first arrest in the case, taking 15-year-old Zacchaeus Johnson into custody in Clarksville, Tennessee, after he had fled the scene. Johnson, a resident of Summer Place, was the first of three teenagers to be implicated in the shooting death of Antonio Baker Jr.

Further investigation led to the apprehension of two more 15-year-olds, Kyvion McGill and Davone Elliott. Both were subsequently booked on criminal homicide charges for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting. The case against the three teenagers is currently making its way through the legal system. Court records indicate that all three individuals are facing felony murder charges, with their cases noted as 'open' as of late 2024, signifying that the legal process to bring justice for Antonio Baker Jr. is ongoing.
