In a quiet South Nashville neighborhood, on the evening of November 28, 2021, the life of 62-year-old Richard D. Lyons was brought to a violent and sudden end. It was around 6:20 p.m. when an unknown man breached the peace of Lyons' home on Cedarvalley Drive. The intruder entered through the front door and was immediately confronted by a female relative of Lyons. A shot was fired at her, but miraculously, it missed, allowing her to escape physical harm.
The gunman then proceeded to the upper level of the residence with a specific and deadly intent. There, he found Richard D. Lyons and fatally shot him. Having accomplished his grim task, the assailant fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of tragedy and a family irrevocably shattered. Metro Nashville police quickly responded to the incident and launched a homicide investigation, determining that the shooting was a targeted attack.
