In the early hours of a Monday morning in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 47-year-old Terrese Lamont Patterson Sr. was tragically cut short. On March 13, 2023, inside a residence at 1020 Lischey Avenue in East Nashville, an unfolding drama would end in a fatal gunshot. Patterson, a male, was in an upstairs room with an acquaintance when an argument broke out between them.
The verbal dispute escalated, shattering the predawn quiet with the sound of a single gunshot.
The acquaintance, later identified as 52-year-old James Alex Harris, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Patterson was grievously wounded, having sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead. The Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly launched an investigation into the deadly shooting, identifying Harris as the suspect.
Following the incident, a warrant for criminal homicide was issued for James Alex Harris. Just a day after the shooting, on the evening of March 14, 2023, Harris arranged to surrender to the authorities. He turned himself in to detectives at the police headquarters and was subsequently booked on the charge of criminal homicide for the death of Terrese Patterson. Court records indicate that a case against James Alex Harris for first-degree murder was filed on January 31, 2024, and the case remains open.
