Waymon Tradale Green, a 41-year-old man, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of June 1, 2021, in Nashville, Tennessee. The incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. outside the HomeTowne Studios motel located at 1210 Murfreesboro Pike. Officers were dispatched to the scene after motel security reported hearing a single gunshot. Upon arrival, they discovered Green on the sidewalk, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man and a woman walking away from
the area shortly after the sound of the gunshot. Surveillance footage from the motel also captured a man and a woman leaving the vicinity. The investigation into the shooting was led by Metro Nashville Police Detective Charles Duke. Detectives determined that Green, who was from Jackson, Tennessee, had a keycard for the motel room he was found in front of.
The investigation led to the identification of a suspect, Charles P. Ewin, 46, who was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal homicide for Green's death. Investigators reported that the motive for the shooting appeared to be related to an altercation Green had with a female acquaintance of Ewin. The woman, Stephanie Earegood, reportedly had a child with Ewin and was dating Green at the time of the incident.
According to reports, Earegood had rented the motel room to get away from Green, whom she claimed was abusive. While initially stating she had left the motel before the shooting, she later admitted to being in the room. She claimed Green had taken her keycard and threatened her. Earegood told investigators she heard an altercation and then a gunshot after opening the door. Following the shooting, Ewin was taken into custody. Earegood was also arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
